Introducing EQUIP: A regional fine arts competition of the IARBC in partnership with Faith Baptist Bible College and presented by 4twelve youth ministries.

EQUIP exists to assist churches in their effort to “…equip the saints for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ…” (Ephesians 4:12)

What is EQUIP?

EQUIP is an event for 7th-12th grade students where they will compete in various musical, speech, and art categories. The competition will be held annually at Faith Baptist Bible College and is divided into four divisions:

Division 4: Group Entrants – Division 4 groups will be scored by judges and will receive a I, II, or III rating based on their score. Should a group consist entirely of 7th and 8th grade students, that group will have lesser requirements than that of a group that is either mixed or fully comprised of high school students. Students may not enter multiple categories in any given year, however, a student may participate individually and also as part of a group.

Division 3: 7th and 8th Grade – Division 3 students will be scored by judges and will receive a I, II, or III rating based on their score. Requirements for Division 3 will be very similar to Divisions 1 and 2, but may be less involved. For example, an instrumentalist in Division 2 would need to play two songs, whereas a Division 3 instrumentalist would only play one.

Division 2: 9th and 10th Grade – Division 2 students will be scored by judges and will be ranked 1st place, 2nd place, etc. These rankings are separate from the Division 1 students. 1st and 2nd place winners will receive a scholarship to Faith Baptist Bible College and a voucher redeemable at the Faith Bookstore or Iowa Regular Baptist Camp. Requirements for Division 2 students will be identical to that of Division 1 students.

Division 1: 11th and 12th Grade – Division 1 students will be scored by judges and will be ranked 1st place, 2nd place, etc. These rankings are separate from the Division 2 students. 1st and 2nd place winners will receive a scholarship to Faith Baptist Bible College and a voucher redeemable at the Faith Bookstore or Iowa Regular Baptist Camp. Requirements for Division 1 students will be identical to that of Division 2 students.

When and where is EQUIP?

EQUIP will be held at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa, on April 7, 2018.

What are the awards at EQUIP?

Division 1, 1st Place: $6,000 scholarship, $100 voucher

Division 1, 2nd Place: $3,000 scholarship, $75 voucher

Division 2, 1st Place: $500 scholarship, $50 voucher

Division 2, 2nd Place: $250 scholarship, $25 voucher

EQUIP winners who will still be in high school the next year are eligible to compete again. Scholarships are not cumulative: you will only be able to use the largest scholarship you earn (including any Talents For Christ awards). However, should a student win 1st place as a junior (winning $6,000) and return the next year and win 1st place again as a senior, that student would receive a bonus $1,000 for a total of $7,000 scholarship. Depending on the size of the scholarship, the award may not be redeemable all at once, but will be spread over multiple semesters. Should no entrant in a particular category earn a high enough score to merit a scholarship, no scholarship will be awarded.

All scholarships are awarded by Faith Baptist Bible College. All vouchers are funded by the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches and are redeemable at the Faith Bookstore or at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp.

Who is eligible to compete at EQUIP?

EQUIP is open to 7th – 12th grade students who are members in good standing of a IARBC church. EQUIP is also open to 7th – 12th grade students who are members in good standing of a non-IARBC church if their pastor certifies that their church is in agreement with the doctrinal statement of the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches. Group entrants will have the same eligibility requirements as individuals.

How much does EQUIP cost?

All entrants, including individuals and groups, will be charged $25. Students attending Faith’s scholarship weekend will have their fee waived.

What are the expectations for each category?

That is an excellent question! The specifics for each category are still being formulated, and will be available at iarbc.org/equip at a later date.
