Adel Church Name Change
(Re)Introducing SonRise Baptist Church, Adel, Iowa
Recently, the IARBC church in Adel, Iowa (30 minutes west of Des Moines) changed its name. Formerly Rapids Street Baptist Church, the assembly adopted the new name “SonRise Baptist Church” in February of this year. They began using it internally in June and are making announcements to the public this month (August).
Why “SonRise?” We have many reasons, but first and foremost “SonRise” shares Who we are about – the Risen Savior, and what we are about – sharing the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection! “SonRise” also uses a play on words relaying Jesus as the Light of the world in our desperately dark day. Further, it says the church is alive and moving forward into the future. There are many more reasons (it is certainly much easier to say…), but we desire to keep having an impact in Adel until the Lord returns. Please pray for SonRise Baptist Church of Adel!
Kevin Subra was called to be our interim pastor in February. Kevin has a deep burden to help smaller churches that desire to continue their Great Commission impact. Kevin serves as a bi-vocational pastor (he works full-time outside the church). He is committed to help SonRise by (1) grounding the church; (2) guiding the church; (3) mentoring leaders in the church: (4) developing a consistent outreach ministry; (5) growing the church as God may choose to bless; and (6) handing-off the church to a qualified pastor committed to caring for the SonRise assembly long-term. Kevin serves together at SonRise with his wife, Jane, Jane’s parents (who live with them), and several of his adult and teenage children.
Will you help us? If you are in or near Adel, and desire to reach a growing community (Adel continues to grow at a rate of 5-7% a year) that needs a sound, Bible-teaching church, please consider helping SonRise Baptist Church. Or, if you are within reasonable driving distance, and have a heart to help smaller churches rebuild and re-establish their impact and are willing to commit to a given amount of time (1 month? 3 months? 6 months? 1 year? 2 years?), please consider serving God this way! (We encourage you to get your pastor’s blessing when doing so.)
Please prayerfully consider such a commitment in a smaller church, as each individual and each family can make a profound impact, even if only through faithful participation. Will you help SonRise, or another similar church, with your committed, sacrificial participation, service, and support? Some may even be qualified to help a smaller church by sacrificially serving as a pastor or interim pastor.
